IowaDOT and IllinoisDOT built a new I-74 river bridge over the river at Moline, IL to Bettendorf, IA. Kraemer North America (KNA) was selected to build the Illinois approach and remove the existing bridge. KNA hired Westbrook to design the removal of the existing 26-span Steel Girder Structure, along with four curved steel ramps.
After an on-site inspection, Westbrook designed a complete removal plan for all of the concrete deck, and for all of the steel girder spans, including demolition sequencing, crane capacity checks, curved girder stability, and stability of remaining spans.
Westbrook was also able to accommodate BNSF Railroad traffic under span 15, and several adjustments in the schedule for traffic control, and construction sequencing.
We are happy to share that the project is complete and the new I-74 bridge is OPEN!
